Classroom management and student identification

Classroom management is an approach to ensuring that the classroom is run smoothly and that students’ unwanted behaviors are controlled by teachers using a wide range of skills and techniques.

The classroom should be a place where a well-structured learning environment is created, misbehavior is controlled, and learning is encouraged.

Classroom management is a continuous process by which members of a school coordinate their activities and utilize the school’s resources to the maximum extent possible and effectively to accomplish the various tasks of the school.

-Tony Bush 1991

Things to consider in improving classrooms:

1.    Physical condition of classrooms:

The class teacher should take note of the following physical resources:

Furniture:

The class teacher should make arrangements to replace these by paying attention to whether they are broken or inadequate for the number of students or inappropriate for the age and height of the students.

• Adequate lighting, ventilation facilities, water leakage or drizzle during rainy seasons, and interference from external sounds that pollute the classroom environment, if any, should be observed and discussions should be held with the principal and parents in this regard and steps should be taken to find solutions for them.

• Displaying and beautifying the walls with paintings made by students will be a way to recognize and encourage each student. Through these, the quality of a class can be monitored.

2.    Paying attention to student behavior:

The behavior of each student should be observed when they are working individually or alone.

Identifying the group:

When students are working in groups, their behavior, the way they interact with others, and the language they use should be observed. At the same time, teachers should also be aware of each student's friends and provide appropriate guidance accordingly.

Conversation with parents:

A good relationship should be maintained between the class teacher and the parents of the children in the classroom. Discussions regarding the progress of the children, their behavior, habits, and spoken language should be held with the parents. Furthermore, if a good relationship is to be developed, the class teacher should visit the homes of his students and hold discussions with the parents,

The home environment should also be known. By maintaining such a good relationship, the teacher will achieve the following advantages.

1)    Children will have more love and respect for the teacher

2)    Due to the extreme attachment towards the teacher, they will also

develop a desire for the subject he teaches, and therefore they will achieve a better level of achievement in the subject.

3)    By knowing the family environment, the teacher will identify the needs of each child, and there will be opportunities to meet the needs of those students and show special interest in them

4)    With such approaches, the peace of the classroom, a rich atmosphere, and the discipline of the students will be maintained better.

Discussion with other teachers teaching in the class:

Since such discussion is child-centered, assessments of the children's shortcomings, strengths, and needs will be made. This will focus the attention of the teachers on all the students in the class. As a result, all the students will acquire high values and achieve a high level of academic achievement. Since this is a class standard like the standard circle in practice in schools, the quality of that class will also increase.

Obtaining expert teacher assistance:

Where necessary, teachers with some subject-specific expertise or resource persons from outside the school can be organized and special workshops can be held in the class with the help of the principal. This will also be a way of change.

3.    Learning Improvement

The main goal of the classroom is to improve the learning of the students. In that regard, every teacher should pay attention to improving learning along with the above-mentioned issues.

The teaching process should be planned and organized, easy to understand by students, contain new content, and allow students to engage in the learning process with joy. At the same time, classroom management can be found in a happy environment if it is appropriate for the age and class of the students.

The following practices should be followed by teachers to raise the level of learning achievement of each student:

Creating Learning Groups:

To create a learning environment in the classroom, it is necessary to create similarity among the student groups. In order to create harmony among the children who come from different thinking, goals, and different family backgrounds, they should be divided into groups and a group unity should be established for learning. Each group should be provided with a different type of learning activity. These should then be promoted as a group. Every two or three days, the group members should be changed and a new learning group should be formed. When learning groups are formed in this way continuously, the motivation to learn on their own will be created in each one.

Focus on developing reading skills to enhance learning:

Implement the following action plans at the classroom level to develop reading skills among students:

• Introduce classroom libraries or bookcase library systems and display reading aids in them. This can create familiarity with books and a love for these books among students.

• Organize reading skill competitions, writing skill competitions and handwriting journal creations among students.

• Organize exhibitions of books suitable for students at the classroom level.

• Give prizes to every student who finishes reading at least twenty-five books.

• Organize reading camps. Prepare simple reading aids, activities and assessment questions in a way that allows students to learn many types of activities at the same time and organize reading camps. Students will be very willing to participate in such activities.

Encouraging student activities:

The class teacher should start his teaching process with the assumption that all students studying in the same class are at the same level. The opportunity should be provided for student-centered education from the traditional teacher-centered education. This will promote equal opportunities for students, motivation, effective activities, development of self-confidence, and interest in group activities.

Providing exercises for writing answers to sample questions:

Providing exercises for students after completing the specific unit or competency in each subject. This also serves as a re-emphasis. The teacher can use the following simple methods in this.

• Setting a sample question paper that includes topics related to the specific unit or competency. This includes questions ranging from simple to complex or difficult questions.

• Divide the students into groups of five and provide each group with the textbook and other books related to the skills in it or information sheets obtained from the Internet. Have the students select questions from them and write the answers to them with their own hands. The teacher should make arrangements for each group to engage in this task. After that, each group should be given an opportunity to present the questions they have prepared and the answers to them through a multimedia projector. Or they should be asked to write and display them on a demy sheet and present them.

Evaluation:

Conducting assessments based on the level of knowledge of students to help improve learning and teaching. Assessments conducted in a classroom can be quantitative or qualitative. Such assessments help to raise the level of achievement of a student and create clarity and confidence regarding subject mastery. Assessment should encourage students to improve and improve, not weaken or discourage them.

Self-Assessment

Self-assessment is when each student assesses his or her own learning ability and where he or she stands. The class teacher should provide guidelines and suggestions for conducting such self-assessments. Such self-assessments also help in making the right decision about what to do next.

Immediate Feedback:

Feedback is an important process that can help improve learning and teaching. Feedback should always be given immediately. Delayed feedback is useless. By providing feedback in this way, it will help students correct their mistakes and do the right things correctly and at the right time. At the same time, it can also raise the level of achievement. Asking students very simple questions can also be a very simple feedback.

Therefore, classroom development or classroom management is not only about maintaining the classroom in a good and attractive atmosphere, but also a teacher should pay attention to personality development and improve classroom management with various techniques so that the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the children can be fully achieved. Only then, effective classroom development will be evident. This is how children's productive personality development will emerge.
